I was a member of his congregation and recorder group for many years, as was my mother and grandmother. <br />I have extremely fond memories of his teaching and am gutted I have presumably missed being able to say goodbye. Sending you much love at this sad time. The other four men were Ordained as Deacons. Jim Potter became Curate to the Revd John Oakes who was already Ordained and Vicar at St Johns Longbridge. I was a Choir boy and Server at St John's at the time and still remember the occasion well. John Oakes on his retirement was made a Canon of Birmingham Cathedral and sadly Passed away on 3rd December 2021 aged 93. He was a much loved and highly respected Priest not only by his Parishioners in Longbridge but by all who knew him.celtusguyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09938524194912564281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4499907566961973010.post-25666146203786132312021-12-14T22:08:23.189+00:002021-12-14T22:08:23.189+00:00John Oakes, my father, died a few days ago. Many photographs are discarded by people and do end up in a car boot!! This is just a very small amount of what I have collected over the years. As you can see above there are other relatives interested in them. So I plan to scan them and send to all descendants. Because there are more than one person interested, rather than send the originals. I will not sell them and eventually gift them to a family history group. If you would like a copy - please send your email via this blog. I will keep it secret and not publish, but will email you copies in return.
